How to run the Mixed Reality sample scene in the simulator?

I just tried to run the Mixed Reality scene of the PolySpatial samples on a simulator, but the app tells me that ARKit is only supported on a real device. That would be a bummer to me, since our app relies heavily on ARKit feature, and we don’t have access to a real device yet.

Can someone confirm that the demo app is right in that respect and you actually need a real device to enable ARKit features?! And if so, is that only a limitation in Unity, or does this also apply to native development?
