Apple is nagging about “sandboxing”. I don’t know what it is and I don’t care but it sounds like we’d better comply with their expectations or our games will be removed from the Mac App Store.
So how do we go about “sandboxing” a Unity game?
Can anyone give step by step instructions?
More to the point how does one sandbox a Unity app? As far as I was aware it was mostly sandboxed, but I guess they may want to lock down file access and network as well. But how?
for the moment, at least this year, apple will keep allowing receiving updates to apps that are already on the app store without requiring sandboxing… but will enforce it for new apps… but i think that eventually the thing will be that all apps on the store will need to be sandboxed… but apple keeps delaying and delaying the dead line… i would not be surprised if apple delays it once again… it was originally november 1 2011, now its until june…
my opinion is that both sandboxing and gatekeeper concepts are on the right place, but the implementations are not ready yet, thats why they keep delaying, theres still a lot of scenarios of completely valid app behaviour that its simply not possible under sandboxing… they are opening new things with new versions, so i guess it will get better with time, only time can tell
