Hello,
I am using Interactive Cloth for cloth simulation. I see that we can set some properties like Bending Stiffness, Stretching Stiffness
Damping, Thickness etc. My question is, can I use the values of these properties from real world, directly in the Interactive Cloth properties window?
I designed some clothes for real and got them stitched that I want to use in my 3D model. While I can design the same clothes in 3D, I am struggling to find out how I can set the properties for each garment in Interactive cloth, in a way that my virtual clothes behave the same way as their real world counterparts. I can get the garments tested in a textile lab and obtain the values for Bending, Stretching etc. Can I fill these directly in Interactive Cloth or do I have to “map” them to properties in Interactive cloth? If I have to map them, what is the mapping formula I can use for each property?
Love to hear back from the experts on the forum as well the development team working on Interactive cloth.
Hello,
Just wondering if anybody has an idea of this - setting properties in Interactive cloth to mimic real life behavior of cloth. Am really looking for inputs on this. Please reply.
Hi!
I have absolutely no experience using the interactive cloth simulation, but I am convinced you wont get anywhere near realistic behaviour by sending your fabrics to a lab, and entering them into the properties of the cloth simulation.
The cloth engine is a parametrized simulation, and your best bet would be to just start tinkering with all the parameters to get the right feel for each fabric.
Thanks for the reply.
Tinkering with the parameters is an option, but I am working on a solution where I need to work with lot of different types of clothes and doing this kind of tinkering/trial error would be too cumbersome and will be too subjective too. So I am looking for some way to map the real-world properties into the properties in Interactive cloth.
May be I can not enter the values as it is, but is there any mapping/ transformation function I can use to arrive at the values to enter in Interactive cloth.
If we know how the properties are implemented in the code, may be this is possible.
