Hi,
I’ve got this neighborhood with normal houses. I’m using Baked Lightmaps to create to proper lighting. But I also use LOD groups on each house (just the LOD0 and a LOD1 group).
Now the Baked Lightmaps do not (properly?) affect the LOD1 objects, and I understand that you need to use Light Probes to get those lower LOD objects lighted in such a way that they ‘fit’ in the baked lightmap.
However, no matter how I position a set of Light Probes, the difference in brightness between the LOD0 lightmapped object and the LOD1 Light Probed object is too big. Sometimes the entire LOD1 object is too dark, sometimes ‘front’ faces are lighter but the rest of the faces are too dark.
For testing I’m using the default 8 probes group and position those probes to the front, back and sides of the houses.
Is there a generic trick to get these probes set for LOD groups?
Would it be better to create separate Light Probe Groups for each house or each row of houses or the entire neighborhood (63 houses)?
So I added light probes across my neighborhood and let Unity (5.5.1) baked the light map including the light probes.
The results were not what I was hoping for (see screen shots).
As you can see the light probed LOD1 is much lighter than the light map baked LOD0 model.
Plus after adding the light probes the other houses (here you see only the LOD0 models) turn out to be wrongly lighted, Without the light probes the light maps baked just fine.
Any one got any idea what I’m doing wrong here?
Cheers!
Marco
LOD0 model - note the wrongly lit houses to the left of the corner house.
LOD1 model of the house with light probes (more light probes are spread out in a grid around the neighborhood). Note that this is much lighter than the lightmap baked LOD0 model.
