How to simulate a turned on lightbulb or lamp w/o Unity Pro's glow feature?

As much as I would love to use Unity Pro’s coveted glow feature, I’m broke, and I need to simulate the white glow of a luminaire - a lamp, desk light, etc. I’m planning on importing a model of a lamp, pairing it with a spotlight, and setting the material used for the lightbulb part of the model to be a glow feature. Except I don’t have glow - so what is a good way to simulate a very bright material?

It doesn’t even need to “glow” - perhaps a very bright, always white material would work. If anyone on here does arch viz (on Unity Free), what do you use? Thanks so much!

use a facing plane or particle with a circular gradient map.
