I’d like to find a way to stretch the stars in my starfield background, which I’ve created by having a large sphere of fixed particles around my scene, in the direction the camera pans, to fake motion blur on them.
I’ve tried setting them to “stretched billboards”, but obviously that would require the particles to move.
How can I get the particles to register the rotation of the camera to drive their stretch amound an direction?
In particle renderer module there is the “camera scale” when using stretched billboard mode. This needs to be combined with speed scale or length scale to work. Also camera scale has a limitation that it only works when camera position is changing, nothing will happen if the camera only rotates.

That’s what I was afraid of… after all, the starfield background will always be at infinite distance, so it gets a separate camera that doesn’t move, but copys the rotation of the main camera. Hence my question…
If it’s not for mobile but desktop/console, instead of stretched billboard, you can use particle trails module with very very low trails lifetime percentage of the source particle, e.g. 0.001, depends on the start lifetime of the particle. Then of course you need to rotate the particle system object transform with the star camera in order to have the trails generated. Also remember that the trails are only visible when the scene is playing.
