How to use the FBX Importer

I have the Essentials book by Will Goldstone, and in there is says to use the FBX Importer component, but it does not elaborate.

I have imported the Outpost package and can see it in the project, but I cannot simply drag and drop this into the hierarchy, nor do I see an FBX Importer.

Did something change in the latest release? Suggestions?

If it is in the Project View then it imported. If you select the Asset in the Project View you can see the FBX Import setting in the Inspector.
