When I started University 3 years ago, I applied for the free Unity version.
Not sure if I needed to submit my Uni course details etc.
And now I have graduated from University.
This week I am looking to update my BIOS so I need to reinstall my Windows 10, thus all my softwares…with Unity being one of them.
How would I re-activate/re-download Unity free version? Do I need my Uni course details?
“And now I have graduated from University.”
Then you aren’t a student.
“How would I re-activate/re-download Unity free version?”
If you’re talking about Unity 5, you can just download the free Personal edition from the downloads page.
Unity Free and Unity Pro were dropped for a Free edition of the then Unity Pro.
If you’re talking about an older version, then it sounds like you probably shouldn’t have access anyway.
I don’t think the student version is a thing anymore. Its a moot point since you have graduated. Just use personal. If you don’t like the splash screen, then sign up for plus.
It isn’t hidden in any of those locations. Either way I wouldn’t recommend simply copying it out of there and bringing it with you to a new installation because I’m fairly certain it takes the hardware and OS into account in some way. It’ll likely fail to work. Though even if it does if he isn’t a student any longer he doesn’t have much of a right to keep using a student license.
But unity for students is just unity personal… https://store.unity.com/products/unity-personal
Students mentioned in the link I provided. It’s also the only thing you get if you try to get unity for students.
Besides, wouldn’t his student license expire if it was it’s own special thing?
Once upon a time Unity’s student license gave you Unity Pro functionality at half the cost. Once Unity 5 came along this was done away with. Regardless if his student license is for Unity Personal then there is absolutely no reason to back up the Unity license file because you can have unlimited licenses for Unity Personal.
@angrypenguin @Ryiah
Thank you for the explanation. It’s as Ryiah said before, the license probably won’t work anyway because it’s machine and OS instalation specific.
