How's the VR support in the latest version - any caveats?

I am trying to keep track of the VR progress but I’ve been away for a few weeks… I remember when 5.1 first came out, there were a few issues such as not being able to use linear colour space in deferred.

I’m currently using 5.1 beta 3 for VR as I found it to be the most stable - is it now a good time to step up to the latest 5.1 version? Any major outstanding issues that still haven’t been ironed out?

Hard to say since issues that affect one developer might not affect another. However I switched over to 5.1.2 last week and everything I need seems to be working well and according to the release notes it looks like a number of fixes such as linear colour space have been implemented.

Might be worth checking the release notes for 5.1.2 (latest release) yourself and see if there is anything of interest.
There are a large number of fixes to VR and for Unity in general, so likely a good idea to upgrade.

Bah I should have said, although it goes with out saying really - don’t forget to back up your project first and keep it around in case there is an issue in a new version of Unity so you can safely rollback.
