Hey Guys,
My last stop making my rounds to help raise awareness for the Humble Bundle & Game Jam that just launched. Nearly 2k in game development tools (not Unity, but there you have it) and as part of it some of the money goes to charity as usual and an additional chunk from the developer’s cut goes into the pool for the Indie Game Making Contest. Games made in Unity are allowed, you don’t have to use the tools from the Bundle
Info on the Indie Game Making Contest at http://contest.gamedevfort.com/page/guidelines and - in case you live under a rock - you can find the humble bundle at www.HumbleBundle.com
Good luck out there!
Just an update to this, the bundle’s RPG maker assets now come with the license to use them in all engines, unity included
I’m pretty sure the answer is no, but just want to make sure. Is purchase of the humble bundle required to enter the contest? Also, any idea what the prices will look like (based on past years perhaps)?
Thanks.
Hey Gilley - You dont have to purchase the bundle to enter. Rules and such are at http://contest.gamedevfort.com/page/guidelines (The theme is Growth).
Last year’s grand prize was 10k. With Humble directly involved it SHOULD be significantly more but the exact number is unknown since its based on bundle sales. As of writing this, it is at 10k already and over 20k in total prizes. There’s also ~500 dollar prize pools for best game made using the various tools in the bundle (that number is increasing too)… so there’s SOME advantage to using the tools from the bundle if you plan on coming in like… second or third
I think its limited to one prize per game so you can’t be like ALL THE PRIZES ARE MINE
Also… technotronic… we used to dance to that like mad… we were so awkward.
Incase none of you have noticed, the bundle includes Axis Game Factory, which is made for Unity.
@DanglinBob
Are you sure about the rpg maker content, can i read it anywhere?
Last time i contacted them they do not allowed me to use it in an unity game that why i want to read it from an official side. Thank you.
@RandAlThor_1 Reddit - Dive into anything Pretty sure based on this conversation someone else posted about in another thread.
Great, thank you DanglingBob
No Prob… bob? Thor?
Whatever
Official word from Humble Bundle on the RPG Maker DLC (and other DLC):
The Humble Game Making Bundle includes a vast variety of resources for all aspiring game developers. Although some of this content is optimized for use with versions of RPG Maker, all of the DRM free DLC packs are licensed for use with any engine, as indicated by the licenses that are packaged with their corresponding products. At the bundle’s launch, some of the DLC and asset packs were packaged with old licenses, which incorrectly stated that they could only be used with the RPG Maker. As of July 8, 2015, the correct license files — which permit these resources’ use with any engine — are now included in the bundle.
