In the programmer’s defense: .02 isn’t exactly 50% of .05
It does have merit mathematically, I bet the designer is to blame here :wink:
unless they are the same person as is often the case …

It was used so that any rounding error is in favor of the sellers cash register. Any odd numbered cents value will be halved to a half cent. Someone has to eat that discrepancy due to the discrete nature of money. If they sold 5000 assets which had a half cent split, that is a 25 dollar accounting deficit. As in Las Vegas the house always wins the odds.
