I cant drag and drop

Hello All
I cant imagine what I am doing wrong. I create material and successfully add a brick texture to my material.I then try and drag it to the cube and I get nothing. I am following everything out of the book. I have watched the tutorials on this . I am amazed that I am stuck.

Also, what book are you using?
