a) have your friend allow APKs from untrusted sources (you don’t need to root the device to install simple test game)
b) make sure you compiled the APK to API Level Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.0 in Unity) or lower.
c) When you do publish if your friends tests reveal your program does not run good on old versions of Android then choose to compile in Unity to a higher version of Android that it runs good on. That is better for you in the long run anyway. When you publish you will asked to choose a minimum level API to allow to download your game. Example, I chose API 19 (Android 4.4 KitKat)
