I can't wait for Oculus Rift

I’m going to buy the development kit on Ebay just to play with it.

Is it easy to set up with Unity to view projects in VR?

Can we use it on the fly when creating content (like by playing the project/WIP in the Unity editor) or does the project have to be fully compiled first?

No replies?

Does anyone here even own Oculus Rift?

Do you even lift bro?

I just tried it out at work. The one I was playing had a low resolution, but I think the production models will be better. It seems pretty easy to set up from what I have seen.

It’s easy to set up. The Unity integration consists of a Unity package that you import and you get a camera controller prefab that includes the two camera setup that tracks with your movement and applies the lens distortion. Drag that into a scene and it’ll just work.

Yes, you can use it from the editor Play mode. You have to drag the Game window so that it’s in its own window, then hit the maximize button (or whatever you call it) and then the game will be playable on the Rift. Yeah, it’d be a pain if you had to do a build every time. You can also just play it normally in the editor - it’ll display the left and right images.

oculusvr.com is the better place for info though. Their forums have a specific Unity integration area.

Why don’t you just order one on their website? It’s probably cheaper, and faster.

I’ll be waiting on the cunsumer version when it’s at it’s best to get one, but it’s tempting to get one now

I’m suspicious of the devkit, they show off all this amazing stuff but haven’t upgraded the devkit once? Surely the consumer one will come out soon or at least a new dev kit, considering they are showing off ones that are beyond the consumer one (Crystal Cave)

Got mine yesterday after ordering last week. Can’t wait for a higher resolution version. Works great with the kinect for tracking body, just wish it had a longer cable…
