I followed an official tutorial and got NullReferenceException

I did exactly as Carl said but the last line in PlayerController.cs (focalPoint.transform.forward) is not working.

To help you out,

we would need your code

This, and also need a description of what “is not working” means.

It appears as though the reference to focalPoint is found via the line GameObject.Find( "Focal Point" ). A NullReferenceException in this context implies that focalPoint is null, which in other words means that GameObject.Find didn’t find anything.

Ensure that your focalPoint gameobject in the scene is named exactly Focal Point – spelling and capitalization count!
