Seriously what is with all of these horror WIPs and the slender game?
Not actually about this, just saying that this is the current craze.
So what I’m really here to ask is what is your opinion on the matter of “crazes”, horror has the spotlight now, what was the previous ones (Voxel Games?) and what do you think will be the future craze?

I have no idea why Slender games have become so popular.
Quite surprisingly, games involving voxels never really became a craze.
This is mainly because the people who are likely to try and clone another game, simply didn’t have the required knowledge.
MMO’s were the previous craze (to some extent they still are).

It wasn’t insulting btw, it just didn’t answer the OP. Slender was cloned because it is easy to clone. Minecraft because it made alot of money.

I just started a thread about this topic, ironically I love developing, outline, writing, lighting… etc. anything to do with the Horror genre.

I talk more about the topic in the thread I started but I do agree that if horror/suspense games are being overly developed.
There needs to be more creativity.

I was thinking about stuff like Tiny Wings, Angry Birds, Minecraft, WoW and even Slender : they all have in common some “I could do it myself” visuals (the trap being that they’re not so easily reproducable), very accessable gamedesign, and of course huge media visibility
If the visuals are easy then people think the game is easy, they think “pfff MineCraft, any kid could make that shit” when they cant do it they look for help.
Of course in the future people will be doing Undead Pixel clones no doubt about that
Slender meme + super simple to make.
That’s the same reason why people always create a fps game at first. EASY is the keyword
Hopefully the next great thing will be either games about platipuses or games about bomb spitting cats

Slender already had a HUGE fanbase. The game just had that ‘spark’ that made it popular, and it was quite creepy when I last played it.
Angry Birds and Minecraft, maybe they had appealing design or characters or something…
Slender man is a poorly thought out concept, it’s not scary, interesting or amusing in any way. But it appeals to the lowest common denominator. The moral of the story is, if you want to get rich fast, make the stupidest concept you can think of. How about a game where you are like one of those people from jersey shore and you go to clubs to “blow it out” and you get points for how many ratings your reality show gets.
