To quote Tim Cain, “Ideas are a dime a dozen. Ideas are the easy part. Ideas on their own are so cheap that they are nearly worthless.”

Let’s Talk About Ideas - Tim Cain - YouTube

So with that in mind if you don’t have anything to bring to the project other than the idea you’ve nothing of value for them, and they would be better off using one of their undoubtedly numerous ideas and ignoring you. Because you’ll want something for contributing the idea but you’ll have brought almost nothing of value to warrant it.

lol interesting read but im not asking for money to fund it i have an entrepreneur im good friends with who can help get it off the ground. i just need to get with someone who knows how to make games that would be interested in making it. i know the internet is full of negative trolls telling you how something wont work but im lookin for the few people on here that actually can help

AND the idea doesn’t suck the premise for the game is simple the game loop is a proven winner.

You do realize you’re talking to a bunch of people with actual experience in game production, right? Posts like yours are a dime a dozen and we’ve all seen them more times than we can count. The simple reality is that an idea is nothing without the ability to execute it and you lack that not just in development experience, but managerial experience as well.

In games, there’s no such thing as an “ideas guy.” Even game designers are going to have multiple dev related disciplines under their belt and they’re going to understand more nuances to the process rather than just having an idea for “the next big game.”

the idea is the most important part! you think steve jobs actually did any work on the ipod or iphone? knew the tech to make a macbook air from scratch? he had an idea and found people in different fields with the same vision. im not asking for free work just to be pointed in the right direction.

i will add one of my game ideas as an example this one cant really be used because its pokemon:

This concept outlines a revolutionary way to experience Pokemon battles, putting the focus on communication, strategy, trainer-Pokemon bond, and the ever-present element of uncertainty.

Inspired by the Pokemon Coaching mechanic, this system injects a layer of risk-reward, emotional connection, and individuality into battles.

Core Mechanic: Yelled Text Commands with Uncertain Outcomes and Individuality

  • Forget button mashing! Issue strategic commands like “Attack!” or “Use [Move Name]” through a quick-access menu. Your trainer character will yell them out, adding immersion and excitement.

  • The outcome is not guaranteed! Just like in real-life communication, there’s a chance your Pokemon might misinterpret or struggle to follow your instructions. This outcome is influenced by:

  • Pokemon Intelligence: High-IQ Pokemon (Alakazam) grasp complex strategies with a higher success rate, while lower-IQ Pokemon (Magikarp) might require simpler instructions and have a higher chance of misinterpretations.

  • Pokemon Personality: No two Pokemon are exactly alike! A bold Pokemon might disobey a cautious command in a crucial moment, taking a risk, while a timid Pokemon might freeze under pressure, requiring encouragement.

Strategic Depth:

  • Team Building and Scouting: Carefully consider a Pokemon’s intelligence and personality when forming your team.

  • Balance strategic powerhouses with loyal bruisers who can perform well even with less-clear commands.

  • Observe your Pokemon’s personalities to create a team that complements each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

  • Adapting Commands: Be prepared to adjust your commands on the fly, reading your Pokemon’s reactions and adapting to their personality and the flow of battle. Don’t rely on a rigid strategy – be flexible and encourage improvisation!

  • Pressure and Performance: The pressure of big moments can affect even the most well-trained Pokemon. A Pokemon might perform flawlessly in training but struggle in a tense battle. Be prepared to offer encouragement or adjust your strategy accordingly.

Building the Bond:

  • Friendship Boosts Understanding: A strong trainer-Pokemon bond improves communication, reducing misinterpretations and increasing the success rate of your commands.
  • Unlocking Potential: Deep friendship unlocks hidden potential, granting Pokemon access to powerful moves they couldn’t use before.
  • Unique Personalities: Discover each Pokemon’s quirks and tailor your approach. A charismatic yell might motivate a timid Pokemon, while a calm command might reassure a hothead.

The Trainer’s Role:

  • Effective Communication: Learn to communicate clearly and concisely, considering your Pokemon’s intelligence, personality, the pressure of the situation, and even their past experiences.
  • Leadership and Trust: Build trust with your Pokemon to enhance performance, encourage them to push their limits, and manage their anxieties in high-pressure situations.
  • Managing Commands: Avoid over-commanding! A barrage of instructions can overload and confuse your Pokemon, leading to decreased performance. Trust your Pokemon’s instincts and allow them to act strategically within your overall plan.

This isn’t just a new battle system – it’s a whole new way to experience Pokemon! Imagine the joy of understanding your Pokemon’s unique personality, the thrill of a bold gamble pay off in battle, or the satisfaction of calming a nervous Pokemon before a big move.

What do you think, fellow trainers? Would you love to see a Pokemon game that celebrates the individuality of Pokemon, the power of a true trainer-Pokemon bond, and the uncertainty of communication that makes real-life training so engaging? Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments below!

Doesnt matter how you spin it, fact is you have 0 experience in the game development industry. Now, you say you have funds to develop this “idea that could be big”, ok, but this tells me your posting this is the wrong forum.

Does he know that he’ll be lifting it off the ground? Because I have a feeling that’ll be a big surprise for him or her.

Steve jobs did a lot of work creating Apple. You know, when they built Apple computers in garage. That’s why he got to boss people around. Because he created the company. After his first stint in Apple (1976-1985), he had enough money to fund Pixar. He is responsible for birth of Toy Story.

That’s the work you didn’t do, and that’s why you’re not Steve jobs. Effectively he demonstrated to have business sense in practice and you did not.

Ideas is the most useless part, because there is infinite amount of them. Infinite supply of ideas means infinitely low value of an idea.

To be an idea guy you should have business sense and burn your own money. Got about $5 mil? Maybe $40 mil? That’ll allow you to make a game.

Anyway.

The text you posted is generated by ChatGPT. Also, to build a pokemon game you’ll have to buy rights from Nintendo, and Nintendo will almost certainly refuse to sell them. They own the IP, and they have a habit of killing fan projects that infringe on it. So if you’re planning to make a pokemon title, that’s absolutely not happening.

This is crazy lol so if i open a restaurant i say i want it to be Italian food, i cant hire a chef to make italtian food in my restaurant because i dont know how to cook? lol i thought people that worked on games wanted to be hired also? im not asking for free work with the promise of a later big payday i want to take my idea and put it in the hands of someone who can help me do it shares my vision and can add expertise what will work what wont etc. the reactions on here are weird im not looking for a handout lol

imagine calling the plumber and him telling you to fix the toliet yurself lmao

thank you im obviously new to this site. thanks for the direction sheesh talking to the pros sucks you guys are a negative bunch lol

Incorrect, the formula for a successful game looks something like this…

idea * execution * monetisation * marketing = success

If your idea is amazingly perfect but you have low scores for everything else, it’s going to fail as a commercial venture.

There is no way to know if an amazing idea will translate well to sticky gameplay, it needs to be prototyped and played and fine tuned by feedback from players in your target audience, and only then should it move onto the next stage of development if the feedback is good, or major changes made to the ‘idea’ to mould into something addictive and playable.

Your entreprenuer friend would be stupid to throw money at a game designed by somebody who has no game design or development experience.

If you’re serious about making it, bring money to the table, there is a Commercial: Job Offering - Unity Forum on here which is for paid gigs only, hire an experienced developer to advise on and develop the game.

your exactly right! he started with an idea! im not saying im steve jobs im saying he was the ideas guy he might have built a computer in his garage but i guarentee he never built an ipod from scratch he had ppl working for him. once the idea gets off the ground you get funding so on and so on. the same way ppl are on here sayin its dumb to be the idea guy are the same ppl who were telling him his ideas were dumb and its weird because i didnt even say what my idea was just that it was for a game

indie games dont cost 5 mil hollow knight was made for like 50k on kickstarter i just need a prototype to get to kickstarter lol

yes i used ai to flesh out MY IDEA. i like the way they make it look which is the same thing i would do with a human who knows how to make the game i want to make once i find out where these ppl are

i said i was putting the pokemon idea i came up with on here for the exact reason you just said because it cant happen its just an example.

what do you think about the idea? is that a game you would want to play?

Not negative, realistic. You’re not the first person to think their idea is the jackpot formula. You’re also not the first person to believe providing the idea is the most important part of game dev. These 2 things, thrown into a post with no game design document, details, working prototype, or even future plans for development are why your post is being received the way it is.

i put those things in a room full of people who know how to make games and expect what? they like the idea and hit me up OR like the idea and i see my game on steam in a year lol

i honestly dont care about the negative comments. i think they are interesting but im not easily influenced by others lol

im not a scammer he would have to believe it could work and hes an “idea guy” too most rich ppl are.

Claiming one of your ideas is an existing game doesn’t lend much faith that you have a valuable idea.

its an idea expanding on an existing idea. Again i put it on here because theres no possible way that idea could be used but it is a good idea for a pokemon game go ahead and admit it lol
