i have a idea for a game and am wondering what you guys think really apreciate feedback
also im a complete noob to only downloaded unity and blender this week so might be looking for help on this anyway ill give as much details on the game and let me know what you think
ok so its a online game played on two fronts you can choose either at anytime
ok so galaxy has 4 races not too sure on details just yet
space game buy build up your space craft weapons and cargo bay etc
warp speed for getting around solar system , then a jump drive from battlestar galctica
to get around the galaxy
starbases will be safe zones ie no weapons fired in a certain area
second part is a mmo fps you choose what planet of 4 in a solar system you want to fight on and whoever wins the battle on that level owns the planet , own all 4 and you own the solar system , your race gets points etc for the system to upgrade weapons and ships
the planet that your fps has a shield on it and when you get a killstreak you can call someone from space to come down for a bombing run if no person is in system etc AI will take over
ok so obviosly there are some gaps lol to say the least as i said im a total noob so going to spend a while on just making objects in blender for a while that will be needed
Try with one world or maybe just some battlegrounds and two races. Work on key mechanics then maybe some customization or multiplayer features and graphics.
Go even smaller. Try making a character and then making him move. That is a feat unto itself that forced me to learn a lot. Not just about character movement but scope as well. The scope of a project will determine its chance of success.
The time you save on your large project from those will save you way longer than you spend on them.
Besides, unless you’ve made some stuff first, what experience are you basing decisions about your big project on? You might be stuck for years with decisions you make now based on no experience!
We can’t exactly say that you can make a game like that straight away, however I suggest doing a few practice projects of which you focus on different subjects of the game e.g. variables and PlayerPrefs, AI, simple Solar System set-up.
From experience, you really have to be committed to making the game because you will get better ideas as you make your game, so the persistence aspect of game development comes into play.
I think your idea seems rather epic, I guess I can relate the second part to a galactic version of Planetside 2 but you must make sure that the game is both aesthetically pleasing and fun to play.
So yeah, I even suggest making a simpler game (not just a test project) and learning from that experience to aid you through making this idea a reality. Your idea seems to big of a project made by one person, try balance the weight by hiring another person to help do certain parts of the project. Good Luck!
