I Hope the CEO's right :)

Frikkin Candy Crush Saga is a joke. I don’t care how much moola it makes. To take people to court to defend the trademark “Candy” and “Saga” They need a good swift cowboy boot in the arse. I have no respect for such clownage and litigious tomfoolery. If I spent a million bucks promoting a turd shining sim it may be at the top of the charts but it is still a turd shining sim.

I was talking to my bros about “should we make a mobile game?” and I said, it’ll just become dominated by a handful of super-publishers within a few years.

So, next prediction? The death of “gaming as we know it” and a “punk rock” era where Indie developers will sell out to big companies to make games to appeal to whatever demographic they’re targeting, because the standard models of what “works” aren’t “working” and businesses need money.

But in the end, all will give way to the fact that most people like mainstream, mass produced whatever. The cheaper that whatever is to produce and the more of it they can produce, the better. Money buys market research and advertising, hence the vicious circle of crap.

Convenient packaging, low cost products sold in a store with 2 or 3 choices per genre for simplicity.

Pop music, pop culture, fast food, app games.

Taylor Swift, Kardashian, McDonald’s, Candy Crush.

You can hate it all you want it doesn’t change because 90+% of people LOVE it.

Meanwhile, we will probably have to operate out of the 21st century digital equivalent of a record store/comic book shop where everybody is working on their own thing, but only a few ever see more than a little local success.

We might be there now, I’m not paying attention to the current state of gaming as it depresses me everytime I raise my head and look outside of my bunker.

Edit: no we’re not there, because people with a soul still work in the industry. If Nintendo is ever swept under the tide, it’s over.
