I just wanted to say Hi from a new user

Hi everyone.

After many years programming web applications and secretly wishing I was programming games, I came across Unity3d and have been watching tutorials and reading all I can as it seems like a great development tool. The scripting looks really impressive and fun to work with, and given my background, I fully intend to exploit this side of things to create the game ideas that I have been looking to make for some time

I have a busy work load right now, but will shortly be embarking on my first Unity trial and really looking forward to being involved in the community.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Welcome aboard the big ship Unity3D.

Tony

I think that’s the story behind quite a few Unity developers

I think you’ve definitely picked the right tool - 6 months or so down the track I couldn’t be happier with the decision I made to purchase Unity. In fact, I think I’d go so far as to say it hasn’t really disappointed me at all so far in anything that I’ve tried to do.

Have fun!

I’ve had lots of non game related work to get through the last week, but I have been taking some time out each day to watch the excellent 2d shooter tutorials from 3dBuzz.com. C# development looks brilliantly integrated and I can’t wait to get started. I have another week of work before I can dedicate some quality time to it, but I can already tell that I am going to really like it.

Thanks for the welcome. I am sure I will be posting plenty of questions over the coming weeks.

Dave

Hey and welcome! Totally see where you are coming from  Good luck with it!

Welcome from another “general software-development guy” who does a lot of Web development for a living and … Unity stuff for passion

Welcome indeed. It’s a shame work gets in the way sometimes. I’ve lost track of the times I’ve powered up a C# ide just to try out an algorithm for a Unity related personal project when I should be extracting data for my real work!
Judging by your experience I doubt you need this advice, but just remember that small achievable goals will keep you progressing well. It’s sooo easy to set the bar too high on a personal project and get bogged down - personal experience talking there.
Good Luck - you’re going to have a blast!

Welcome aboard!
