I need a little hard drive help...

Long story, but here you go, in short :
I bought a new Graphics Card (an XFX 5770) and to use it i need a new power supply- so i got my self an Arctic Power 500, both of ebuyer. Now the power supply had gotten excellent reviews on ebuyer, so I though I might as well go for it.

A few days later, every time I turned my PC off, i’d get this high pitched ringing noise coming from the PSU. Then, I was asked to do a disk check on my PC. I decided to wait, but eventually decided to let it run. This is where it all went wrong. After doing the disk check, my PC would boot, almost get to the login screen, then i would get a BSOD, and have to launch startup repair- which i used to move to an earlier system (If you’ve used windows 7, you’ll know what I mean). After that I managed to log in successfully.

Then during the following week, I kept getting boot problems- sometimes it’d be exactly the same as the situation above, sometimes it would get into windows and then crash. All my event log statements told me it was a power fault- and i was intending on sending the power supply back anyway, so I did and bought myself an OCZ Stealthxstream 2 500w, which is working perfectly. But i’m still getting these boot fails0 It took me 5 reboots just to log in and it not crash this afternoon.

So my question is- do you think my last PSU has damaged my Hard Disk? Sometimes it ‘wakes up’ about 5 seconds after the rest of the PC- not right. I’m just unsure, and It’s getting VERY annoying having to boot up 5 times to get my pc running well.

Do you have another Hard Drive to test it with?
Even an old one?

One thing I was always thankful for was how many computers were in my house, even if they were old.
Often you can take a piece out of one computer to test if the rest work. I always did that to find out the problem.

Also, have you tried unplugging your hard drive entirely, taking it and its cords out, and then placing them back in?

If performing a disk check “Caused” the problem, then perhaps it’s not damaged and just needs to be reformatted.
It’s really hard to tell without doing further tests or replacing parts to see if it is the part you replaced.

I find it very difficult to find out the problem for others, but always am able to find out my problems and fix them.
Have you tried googling the exact problem? Finding others with the exact same problem can often result in finding your answer.
Google is the greatest tool to fix a computer problem, because someone else-- somewhere-- has already had the problem, and found out what it was, or at the very least got a few bits of advice of what it could be.

Ahh thanks, i think i may have found it:

I will have to double check but… I think it’s probably this error.
