I need input on what high end asset to buy!

Hello everyone!
I got a lot of cash for my birthday, so I thought this would be a good time to buy one of the more expensive assets from the asset store. I am currently making a multiplayer third person shooter. I’m starting to understand basic C# too.
I am having trouble deciding what asset to get as I only can afford one…

Currently it stands between UFPS, ProBuilder Advanced and Playmaker.

What would you suggest I buy (first)?
I may be able to afford another asset soon, but not right now.

  • I have created a decent multiplayer level, but it took a long time, so having ProBuilder would make me able to create better maps much faster.
  • I have a basic shooting system in place with one weapon, paricle effects and recoil. I also have bullet counting and magazinges working.
  • I know how to script very basic stuff in C#. I have been following tutorials on YouTube and thats where I have learned. Having Playmaker seems to make the whole thing much easier.

Any input would be great! There is also the whole Asset Store sale thing going on right now, I dont know how that works but maybe one of the three assets I want will go on sale the next 11 days?

Maybe bide your time, go get Probuilder Basic, mostly you just can’t texture your walls, and see if it comes on sale in time for you.

Add things to your wish list in the asset store and set your notifications to email you daily. You never know, might come on sale before you decide you need them.

I hear Ironbelly Studios has some great looking first person weapon packs :)… Just a rumor of course!

for me…
once im now decent at coding stuff, i worked with some logic bricks in a different program … and it SUCKS its waay slower and kind of annoying … once you get good at coding coding is quicker easier and less annoying
but yeah maybe just me.
but it IS nice that its more visually understandable

i think ive read uScript is better though… but i guess i didnt look too much into them… but what ive read Playmaker is not as powerful i guess
OOOh … thats why … uScript can turn written scripts into its system of logic bricks thingys … thats what interested me in the first place … cause some systems you code can get overwhelming how they all interact… making me have to document it… but like the thing i guess could auto visually ‘document’ it
i think Playmaker is … its meant to be easy, for people that dont know coding
but uScript is made for people that know coding but just want a different workflow, a visual workflow
but yeah ive hardly looked into them much… so maybe idk wtf im talkin bout
like some dude says:
" … as Developers said, this is more than just a Visual State Machine (Playmaker)… this visual scripting tool is the closest thing to actually coding… "

they have a totally free version of the Pro version … i guess the limitation is you cant make money/commercial things with it
Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making
hmm LOL i forgot to get into this LOL thanks for making me remember it HAHA … guess i felt i didnt have the time to learn a new thing back when i seen it

i was thinking of getting Forge Networking
… idk i was thinking of getting it lol

dont have anything to say about your other assets you mentioned…

…hmm I guess people say uScript is easier to use

My recommendation is if you don’t know which asset to buy, buy none of them. Wait until you are sure you know which asset or assets will be the most valuable to you. This also gives you time to watch for sales.

If you’re only just learning Unity, C#, and FPS games, there are tons of tutorials out there and even some freebie code packages that can get you started learning. Take a look at FPS Control on the Asset Store. I have not worked with that code in particular, but I used several Tornado Twins tutorials when I was first starting out.

Give yourself time to find the holes where you either can’t or don’t want to solve. It would suck to spend money on a package you’re not sure about and then later realize what you really needed was sound effects or a save system.

That said, I do own Playmaker and have used it, though not for some time. While it is well built and well documented, my thoughts on that asset is that if you really want to learn C# coding well, you don’t want an interface like Playmaker between you and the code. It’s a great system for an artist who wants a lot of help with the programming, but I think it’s a poor choice for someone who wants to call themselves a programmer in the long run.

If you don’t need any immediately, you probably shouldn’t get any right now. As a owner of UFPS, I would advise against getting UFPS now, not due to quality (It is a great asset), but due to the fact that UFPS 2.0 is coming sometime in the future and likely as a paid upgrade. If you are on a budget it may be better to wait until 2.0.

I guess waiting would be the smartest thing to do… But do you know if UFPS has built in Third Person support?

UFPS publisher here -

You can find more details on UFPS 2 within this thread but the short answer is that UFPS 2 is in development but it will still be many months before it is released. We acquired UFPS about a month ago and since then I have been learning how UFPS 1 works so when I work with the original UFPS developer on designing UFPS 2 I’ll have some ideas for what I like and don’t like about UFPS 1. I’m still in the process of figuring out how UFPS 1 works so no UFPS 2 code has been written yet.

An upgrade price is discussed in this post but the short answer is that we haven’t thought that far ahead. Even if there is an upgrade price it will be cheap and since UFPS 2 is still a long ways away you should definitely be able to get your value out of it.

In terms of built-in third person support, yes, UFPS does have that feature. I should note though that in version 2 I will be removing that feature and requiring our third person asset if you want a third person view. You can see more about this within this post.

To answer your original question @YoloJoe_1 , my recommendation would be similar to the others and wait until you really need an asset. As soon as you reach that need then you’ll know which asset to get
