I need some textures!

Are there any plugins for unity 3d that I can use to paint textures? If not , what software would you recommend for painting your own textures. Is krita any good? I heard it’s okay.

Gimp.

You could take a look at Substance Designer if you want to go the procedurally generated route, or if you want some ready made textures with normal, spec., and various other maps; you could take a look at GameTextures.com who offer a very reasonable pricing structure.

Gimme money and I’ll make you some.

Photoshop is the obvious answer, but if you get default textures of the web and overlay them on top of eachother in different ways, you can get some unique textures e.g. placing a grunge wall panel texture on top of a space station ‘futuristic retro’ panel, it can look like an overgrown wall.
Bump/Specular Maps are rather hard to make but there are softwares which allow you to do that with a click of a button.

I think the OP is referring to bringing in an untextured model, and being able to paint a UV texture onto it from within Unity.

There is a level design package that lets you do just that, but its about $100. If you can afford it, go for it. Otherwise, you’ll have to work outside of Unity to hand-craft your level/model/whatever
