“I, Ocean” is a game concept build, winner of GlobalGameJam17: Moscow.
You are the astronaut crashed on unknown oceanic planet. It appears, that the Ocean itself is alive, conscious, intelligent. If you want to survive, you have to establish contact. But how to talk with such godlike alien mind?
In this game we tried to comprehend the essence of communication. The language. The concepts. First, you have to learn how to ask for an essentials to prolong your life. But if you want to leave this planet, you need abstract concepts. And the primary is “I”.
Here are the steam concept page: Steam Community :: Error
This concept looks great! I love the rendering style. I checked out your steam page, and clearly this is an early concept. Is your end vision more of a point and click adventure? This seems like a natural for more immersive gameplay.
How do you envision the communiation with the ocean entity? In what ways will it be able to interact with the player?
Thanks!
Yes, primary, we have an idea of something like mind exploration. Different language, unlikely concepts of a lonely celestial being. We think, that the ocean should have completely another existence experience and it should be hard to explain him ordinary (for human) things, so we have to understand, what it is like to be him and find right analogy.
And how he should speak with you?
May be it is just waves, or his thoughts can materialize and you may interact with it like with real objects. And in this interactions you may show your way of life by making different decisions.
But Game Jam’s 48 hour restriction forced us to simplify scope of work =)
So, yes, this is just first concept of a game – echo of the idea.
