I’m just a beginner and I going through tutorials. I want to buy this assets pack and use it in my games Kenney Komplete by Kenney - itch.io
Is it worth it?
Yes, you should buy it to support him, he’s giving out crazy amounts of free assets that can be useful for prototyping etc… I’m still wondering how he manages to keep that a viable business model. If you like his style, youl’ll have a hard time finding packages with better value for money, considering the sheer number of assets he’s offering.
That said, you haven’t given any information that would enable me to answer such a questions in regards to your personal needs. E.g. if your only goal is to make a Quake 1 clone, it would be a bad investment.
Thanks for the reply. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about Kenney’s and his contribution to the community. I’m not really sure what I’m going to build, but those assets look really beautiful.
If it’s just for hobby it would probably be enough for you to get the free assets he’s offering from http://kenney.nl/assets
Free stuff is a great way to attract a lot of people, especially if it’s quality stuff. And when you have a lot of attention it’s much easier to sell stuff. I personally think it’s a much more effective way of attract customers than paying for tons of ads.
Yeah, it’s all about the business model he choose. Anyway we can’t argue that those assets are great.
Kenney, or ‘Asset Jesus’ as many call him, is an absolute hero. I use a lot of his assets for prototyping and small feature demos, as does quite a few people at Unity! Definitely support him! ![]()
This is the kind of popularity that you couldn’t buy with ads.
In many ways, giving out tons of free assets (he seems to churn out a brand new, well polished asset pack every other week) that is then used by countless students, hobbyists, game jammers, game developers etc all over the world is a pretty effective and very organic way of advertising. ![]()
