iAd or Mobclix?

Hey Guys!

Short question regarding iAd after I integrated it into my game. (Tanks Prime31 for the great plugin) What do you set in itunes connect under "My primary target audience is users under 17 years of age.
" Yes or No?
I think my target audience is under 17 but maybe when I say “Yes” I miss some banners that are only for the audience above 17.

Other question. I also bought the Mobclix plugin. Is it true that Mobclix also show iAd banners when they are avaiable? If so, than mobclix is the better way for Ads in the app cause they also show banners for all devices + countrys that didnt support iAd yet, right?

@maglat, I personally set it to no just to be sure I don’t miss out on some ads but if your target audience really is under 17 (like for a kids game) set it to yes to target those young-ins.

The Mobclix vs iAd is a toss up. It would appear that Mobclix would get the nod due to being able to display both iAds and Mobclix ads but it does add some bulk to your binary and requires separate updating for new iOS SDK’s and you are relying on 3rd party code so it can certainly be argued either way.

From the technical side IAd will be the best solution but from the profit side Mobclix is the better way?
Also with Mobclix I will have ads/banner in on iphones that have a firmware installed which is below 4.1, right?

@Prime31, Does that mean if I use Mobclix, I have to submit an update to the App Store every time iOS is updated so that it will continue to work? What happens during the period waiting for the update to be approved? And as maglat asked, does it work on devices that have not been updated?

If you use mobclix, you primarilly will start to pray for ever getting you money

use it if you want to advertise for free, otherwise its at the time near impossible to avoid admob + iad :frowning:

Thanks dreamora, that is interesting news. What do you think of AdWhirl by AdMob? That appears to give AdMob + iAd + more.

The reason I was looking at Mobclix was the plugin by Prime31. I hope there will be an AdWhirl one as well. My next project will have longer play sessions, so it may well be suited to an ad-supported model, but I want to be pretty sure I will get paid.

@Moonjump, oddly enough, you can server AdMob ads through the Mobclix SDK.

I’d researched this before, but missed an important bit of information that becomes relevant to dreamora’s comment: iAd and AdMob payments come directly.

So if I use Mobclix, I can give priority to those two?

Has anyone else used Mobclix? Good or bad experience?

Hi guys-- I’m from Mobclix-- and I’d like to take a try at clarifying some questions:

-First, (most importantly) we have had some issues with late payments but with our recent acquisition by Velti: Velti | Engineering Intelligent Mobile Marketing | Discover our Solutions we’re rebuilding our payment system that will fix the issues at hand. If you are having an issue please email me directly (vs a PM) and I’d love to sort it out. I think I can speak for most everyone that’s written me that we’re fast, responsive and we get the payments out. If you’re thinking Mobclix and have some reservations, I’d be happy to provide you reassurance live. (adam [at] mobclix [dot] com)

iAd Payments: come directly, we’re not involved.

iAd Priority: Bottom line: iAd payouts are spectacular but have low fill rate. We recommend you prioritize iAd first and use Mobclix networks for all backup fill rate.

Other networks: You can actually serve ANY ads (goodle, admob, etc) through the MC SDK, our goal is to allow you to prioritize the highest paying networks first but still maximize your fill rate.

Adwhirl - works well for some, but the biggest complaint is the need to have all network SDKs in your application for client-side mediation (I think it’s up to 5MB for all files) and worse you need them to all work together. But, I’m then again I’m biased, so it might work great for you.

(Also both Adwhirl and Mobclix are free to use.)

Hope this was informative and not a pitch-fest.

Hi Adam,

Welcome to the Unity Forums and thanks for your post. I appreciate that way you addressed Dreamora concern about late payment in straight forward manner.

I’m just about ready to release my latest app and your post has convinced me to use Mobclix and not just iAd. Thanks.

Glad to hear it. Shoot me a note when you’re set to go live so I can double check your configuration.
Welcome aboard!

For my part, I tried a variety of ad aggregators, including Burstly, Tapjoy and Mobclix. I also use a Admob Quattro natively. My experience was such that I decided to use Mobclix - but to only use it for iAds and my own house ads. Burstly would probably have fit the bill too except that it doesn’t / didn’t work with OS3.

This way I don’t have constant ads in my app so the user’s experience is better (less ads) - but because iAds pay so well I get at least the same amount of revenue as I got from Admob or Quattro only.

I could probably get a few extra bucks way down the line if I used other networks inside Mobclix but you have to show so many ads for so little revenue with the non-iAds ads and the payment date from Mobclix would be so distant that I feel it isn’t worth it for me (or my users).

If Mobclix ever move to more reasonable payment terms (same as Apple’s for example) I might reconsider though.

@ ader: stay posted, we might be announcing something to change your mind in the next month.
Also, you hit upon a good point, we have ton of Mobclix “in-house” networks (in reality they’re non affiliated we just serve their ads). Some generally pay well, some generally pay low, it depends on the network’s model, are they vying for premium or bulk inventory?

Regardless, you might want to consider experimenting with payout to see what (if any) networks you’d like to run.
