Moreover, the description on the asset is “This pack start new series of RPG icons (including over 550 icons!) created with a less cartoonish approach than previous sets (no more black outlines). All icons are 65x65 pixels and in PNG format, but still made with smaller sizes in mind.”, which is copied from this one : Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making (and talking about a new series makes no sense, as it’s the 1st icon pack posted by this author on the store).
All of that is very suspicious…
Before to report this to the Asset Store managers, I’d like someone knowing League of Legends to confirm if other icons of that pack are from LoL as well or not (I did several Google Image Search on other icons, but nothing else came up).
The icons are not exactly the same, so this could be anything. Certainly we cant assume anything if they are not 100% pixel per pixel same. Otherwise 99% of artwork on the planet could be considered a copy of something else.
Unless it is another icon ?
This is a classic buddha style stance, so there is nothing unique about it too.
nasos_333,
I see 6 stars in both icons, 5 match (with compression artefact) ; the last one has been moved from bottom left to slightly higher.
Thus said, I checked the 3 mastery trees’ icons & the spells of LoL, and although it’s obvious the pack author got inspired by LoL, it seems very likely he did enough change to avoid copyright issues (including “derived work”), except on the icon we’re talking about right now.
So maybe it’s not that bad after all. I’d feel more safe buying this pack if someone who knows LoL could confirm it’s not a total rip-off.
At least, I can tell he didn’t copy World of Warcraft icons…
Damien Delmarle,
no it’s not legal, it’s called “derived work” and you can’t use any derived work without the agreement of the original copyright owner.
