*IDEA* Augmented Reality Game for Mobiles

Guys, i’m not a game designer or a coder, but i have an idea I want to throw out there and see if you guys can run with it,

Concept:

Mobile game that uses Augmented Reality to perceive the world around you. the theme would be sci-fi/fantasy involving Avatars that battle with weapons and magic. each user would create an account, and be able to customise his avatar, there would be no “classes” but the person would just create an avatar and learn skills as they go, we need to move away from concepts of levels, and work on some sort of skill progression, technically an avatar can wear heavy armor and cast magic, but penalties of armor would apply to cast speed or potency for example.

The AR portion comes in multiple forms, if you are in the vicinity of another player, the AR would pick up and display the person’s avatar on the location of the mobile device, for example thru your phone you may see a person holding a device with the app active, but next to him/her you actually see his avatar, decked out in whatever armor or weapons he has gathered (epeen)

next the combat, the person would control his avatar via a combat interface with a series of combos.
or argument’s sake, lets take a magic caster, on his screen he may see some symbols which he has learned over his progression, and although each each symbol by itself could be a small spell, combo-ing the symbols could result in a bigger more complex spell. for example. his first symbol he learns could be Fire, and they would click Fire and Cast = result would be a Fire 1 spell or something simple. if he casts Fire + Air + Cast = Jet Fire (more cast time, more dmg) and the most complex spells could be anywhere up to 9-12 combinations or more (skill cap)
the same can be applied to melee or physical avatars.

PVE environment, primarily i was thinking PVE, and for the most basic you would have AR mobs wandering around for people to attack and grind off, but the main draw would be the large mobs and raids. these could take the form of famous landmarks, i was thinking if you took the the sculpture or any humanoid fixed object, the game would generate some sort of mob emerging from it and that would be like a bigger mob. and for the large raids, something like famous scultures, imagine David the thinker coming to life mutated by magic and you had to fight it and fight it with other AR people around you. and of course, super raids, like Mt. Rushmore, Statue of liberty where literally you would have to send attacks for hours, days even. (for the hardcore)

Loot wise, there can be random equipment drops, but stats would be universal, with some perhaps legendary attributes which are randomly generated.

What do you think?

So it’s Pokemon: GO but in more of a classic RPG feel?

Likely see this entire genre take off in the next 10-15 years with VR becoming more of a reality.

Nice idea you have there, reminds me of…what was it…oh yes, the idea every single person already though of when they were 10yo.

Wonder why that never become a thing…oh yes, it’s because the technology isn’t there yet.

The tech is around for this. And its slowly being put together.

Giant ‘scavanger hunt’ games that require people to coordinate across massive geographies have been a thing for a while. Adding in VR is just another step in the genre, rather then a completely new game type.

@byronsim , you can do that with vuforia + Unity
