Ideas needed!

Anybody have any good ideas for a game? I want to make a game but I can’t seem to come up with any good ideas. Do you have any ideas? They don’t have to be super creative or out of the box ideas.

If you post an idea for a game that I use, I will put your name in the credits of the game.

Here are some types of games I do NOT want to make:
MMO
2D
FPS
Combat game
Music/dance game
Simulation
Infinite runner (like Temple Run)
Sports

That is the list of game styles or genres that I do not want to make a game of. I also do not want to make some huge big game, I am only one person.

So, any suggestions anyone?

But those are all the fun ones! I recommend a 3rd person stealth game where you die in one hit and there are no weapons. Pure sneaking. Could be fun if executed properly. AI will be extremely easy to make and basically the whole game is quite simple.

Make a Haunted House game.

I would suggest a match-3 style game, with a nice friendly theme like candy.

Yes and call it Candy Saga Crush Banner.

3D casual game isn’t on your list, so what about that!

Some sort of racing game?

Do you know secondlife? There is possiblity to put on a dress of Hare Krishna devotee (or buddhist or of some other religion), and he can do to some virtual temple there. I’ld like game which is like that but which is based on scenario from some scripture. So you are some devottee of God, and you are on side of God, and against some demons on other side (controlled by artificial intelligence?)…
There is one vedic/indian game - called snakes and ladders. it is indeed not hard to make. You just make levels - spiritual level is top level - there you meet God Narayana, and other levels are material planets, material world. And in between there are ladders to go to some upper planets, and snakes to go to lower levels. Each planet, each level is described in scripture - so there can be hellish planets, heavenly planets etc… there are 8 400 000 kinds of living beings (but you can make just few of them - say demons, asuras vs angels, demigods)…
religion, philosophy, and say, mythology gives countless ideas :wink: nice fairy-tales characters etc etc

@MrProfessorTroll - That is a very good idea!
@angrypenguin - Another good idea.
@zombiegorilla - Sounds like it would be a 2D game
@TheRaider - 3D casual games are good
@squared55 - Like what sort of racing game?
@anonymous108 - Sounds complex. Interesting idea though

Business sim. or Tycoon sim. ;D

Micromanaging etc has always been my favorite games.
Even today in 2014 my Android tablet game collection is only tycoon without graphics, a few with graphics and casual puzzles. :smile:

OFC my idea is a very good idea. I am a mister. I am also a professor.

Make a game where you’re a pretty princess, and all mechanics are social interactions in pursuit of some goal.

Well, first, what is your favorite genre? Your favorite kind of game? You’ll have more fun and more motivation if you build something you’d want to play. Then boil that idea down to its essence - what is the bare minimum it needs to be fun?

Now for the best part: what’s your second favorite genre? What mechanic from that would work well in a game like the first?

@Vaupell - It’s a possibility
@Asvarduil - I don’t think so :slight_smile:
@DallonF - My favorite types of games are RPG, RTS, and Adventure. That is why I like MrProfessorTroll’s idea, it is a good combination of the three.

The guidelines you posted are kinda asking for some out-of-the-box stuff. Those genres you mentioned are some of the biggest in the gaming industry. Perhaps you’re familiar with the phrase, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”? This is a good rule of thumb to apply when making games. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel, you’ll just wind up with a broken smashed up sore excuse for a game. However, like one or two people mentioned, if you wanted to stay as far away from those genres as possible, I’d make a Sim City style game. Or I would combine two really popular styles - city building and rts warfare, Think of it as SimCity + Folk Tale + Total War. They all follow the same style of camera, but they are different styles of games. However, they seem like they’d be great game concepts to combine.

I don’t have any problem with the genres themselves, I just don’t feel like making a game with the genres I mentioned. And I am not trying to reinvent the wheel, like I said I am not looking for anything really creative or new, just a twist on a genre, if you know what I mean. Mainly the types of games I am looking to make are:
RPG
2.5D Platformer (with a unique twist)
Racing (also must have a unique twist, like everything I suppose)
Mystery (not like detective stuff but maybe more like Gone Home or the Room)
Stealth games (is that a genre?)

Also I do not really want to make an RTS because they are so big and require a lot of assets and code.

RTS games can be really simple if you make them so. I made this RTS game with graphics like the game Darwinia. All you had to do was press on your base, it would start building units. Then you would tell where your units would go and they would do that. They would either attack, defend, or move. Lastly, you had a maximum of X units that you could build. The only way to get more was to expand space by capturing territories with your units or by killing the enemies units. Who ever would have the most space at the end of the game or was defeated the enemy before the game ended, would win. It was a very very simple game but it was very very fun. I made it for mobile, especially because of the extremely simple controls and the simple graphics. The game itself would take about a week to make. After that, export to mobile and sell it. Unfortunately, I don’t have a license to publish for mobile but you could take my idea and make some money from it if you would like.

That seems like a good possible idea, however I can’t just copy Darwinia. It must be different…but how? I do not know. Anyway if I could think of some way of making a simple RTS that is not like Starcraft or Age of Empires (which is basically what everyone else is copying) then that would be nice.
By the way I don’t know what you mean about mobile licensing…since Unity 4.2 they are free for the basic mobile licenses.

What about an issue game, are there any issues in the world that you are passionate about, if so why not write a game about them?

e.g. Save the or Rights

Just go in the WIP, steal someones project and copyright it. All the successful IPs do it.
