So I built this cave with rocks but the cave inside isn’t very dark.
Ambient lighting doesn’t really work cause I need different Ambient lighting for out side the cave than inside the cave.
Wondering if anyone maybe has some ideas as to why and what i can do to fix it.
Thought about maybe using post processing. But post processing i don’t think will make it look dark when out side the cave from a distance.
You should be able to do it the way most games do; emulating the real world. Increase the intensity of your lights and skybox/ambient source to a very high value (5-10), then enable colour correction and auto-exposure as post processing to re-balance the lighting in your scene. This will make your cave significantly darker in relation to the outside. You may still get strong ambient lighting on the inside, so I would suggest using light-probes inside the cave.
Yep. Light probes is one good way to do it.
It’s kinda the same technique, as trying to make a spooky castle dark inside, with a little bit of visibility inside it. But don’t use way too many light probes.
eg. Over a hundred in a semi large cave.
Otherwise you’ll be wasting alot of memory.
For places in the cave, that have a bit of slight visibilty, put some light probes on the ground, and some above in the air or roof of the cave.
Note: Only put light probes, in places in the cave, that have a bit of visibility. Places in the cave, that are supposed to be completely dark, don’t need any.
