If I was to purchase a Samsung Galaxy Tab, could I download Unity on it to experiment?

Topic.

This is based on reading a thread in the general discussion section on here which has given me the idea.

No you can’t run Unity on a tablet.

Depends. As long as it meets the specs for Unity, it should be able to run. A clever tinkerer could probably install an appropriate OS on a tablet that will run Unity.

Just because it can be done, doesn’t mean its supported. Given your post history, I wouldn’t recommend it for you. This is a tinkering project for someone being clever, not a primary way to use and learn Unity. You’re better off getting a cheap windows laptop and running Unity the way it was meant to run.

That’s the issue: these tablets use ARM processors and there is no Unity that runs on ARM; it requires x86. Theoretically an x86 emulator could be leveraged, but the real answer is “no”. However, the TabPro runs Windows 10 on an Intel chip, so I assume Unity would run on that.

Makes sense. I was more thinking of a general tablet rather then a specific model.

Regardless of if you can or not, running on an unsupported platform is still a bad idea.

No, the only tablets capable of running Unity are those with an x86 processor. There are tablets with x86 processors but unless you need a device with a very small size to it you’ll get a better machine for the same price or less if you go with a laptop.

By the way Black Friday is only one week away now but the sales have already started.
