If I were to write a blog about Unity dev hints, where should I put it?

I’ve been pondering for a while writing a series of entries about common blunders in Unity development that I repeatedly come across in the forums. Topics like:

How & why to avoid GameObject.Find
How & why to avoid Euler angles
Floating point imprecision
Singleton patterns
Inheritance & interfaces
etc

Basically, the sort of answers that I tend to type out over and over again.

Is there a good, free blog host that would be appropriate for this project?

wordpress, blogger, medium

I can’t answer your question, but just want to say I would read whatever you come up with. Your answers are always great in the scripting forum.

For any frequent questions I get I tend to post them on YouTube or Blogger. Then I link from here each time the question arises.

YouTube seems to be more popular, and gives better monetisation. But it takes more work.

It strikes me that it is a good business investment to put up a custom domain on a paid host and use that to promote paid support options or consultancy. There’s no better proof of your ability than good, free advice. Consider it a loss leader.

As much as I regret to admit it, youtube is the best (most popular) medium to make tutorials.

You could always apply to make tutorials on Lynda.com though. They seem borderline desperate for good Unity instructors.

Good thoughts, though I’m happily employed full-time. Maybe a consideration for the future would be “the ability to put it up on a professional looking domain name eventually if I have a need to present myself as knowledgeable and professional”.

I’ve started writing the first entry on gitbook.com - here’s the page for the GameObject.Find writeup (WIP).

I definitely recommend you to go with WordPress. The most flexible solution I guess. If you want to save time, pick a professionally coded theme and customize it to your heart’s content. For my project U used one of these minimalist website templates - https://www.templatemonster.com/blog/minimalist-website-templates/ . Hope it helps!
