They’re both on sale in the asset store right now – which one do you prefer? iGUI is a better sale (50% off!) but nGUI is still a bit cheaper. From the looks of it, NGUI is a bit more robust and professional, but is it really the better call or am I misinterpreting things?
No experience with iGUI but I’m a very happy NGUI customer. I’d suggest trying the free version of NGUI and seeing if that does everything you need. I believe that you can get NGUI and play around with it in your project and just pay when you think you’ll use it for a commercial product (though I could be wrong).
if you are a programmer that is familiar with c#, java, visual basic and the gui builders that come with ides for those languages you will be able to use igui right out of the box and understand it and how it works and how you do things.
unity new gui is very foreign to the likes of us.
ngui is a step up from that, but still does not that much up.
ngui i would say is better for the hud the player sees while playing
and igui for things like dialogs that the player interacts with while not playing.
so i bought both igui, ngui and i still use some unity gui
and its a breeze with igui to do all the taskbars, menus, windows, dialogs, panels, etc where you want more traditional controls and expected behavior and usage.
igui is by no means visualstudio or eclipse, but its a step closer.
and the same can be said for ngui for other things…
so if you are going to only get one it depends on where you are coming from.
i’m from non gaming world programming background so i am more comfortable with the widget set and how it is used of igui, but the buyer maybe coming from other background and this may not be important.
still they are both very good products, well worth having in ones tool bag. and when on sale very affordable. i think i paid $90 for both. i waited for each to be 50% off. before this i lived with unity built in ui. but now i can make the ui i want and its looking very nice i might add, well at least for me it is ![]()
