Hi, I’m trying to install the monoDevelop that comes with Unity3-Beta(b3).
There is no installer so I guess that I’m supposed to unzip the file and place it in the program-files. The funny thing is that I cant get it to work, when I try to start Mono-develop it simply complains about an “Unhandled exception” and then it closes.
What is the best way of installing Mono-Develop that comes with Unity3 Beta?
The following are the listed details:
System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type ‘System.WeakReference’ to type ‘Mono.Addins.ExtensionContext’.

at Mono.Addins.AddinSessionService.ResetCachedData()
at Mono.Addins.Database.AddinDatabase.ResetCachedData()

Kind regards, Robert
I am getting the exact same issue on Vista x64.
Hello Mathew,
After searching a little more I found this thread.
Follow Ippokratis and hjbaard’s suggestion and you might have it working.
Well at least it worked for me.
All the best, Robert
Cheers Robert for taking the time to reply.
I’ve followed the link and tried my best to sort out the file structure but to no avail. Still can’t get it to start.
I wanted it to work to get around the Visual Studio issues i’m having, but i’ll sit tight until the next beta release (i can still work in VS).
Thanks again for taking time on this matter.

No problem Mathew, sorry to hear it did not work for you.
One other thing you could try; go to your build setting and make sure to select for Pc and Mac standalone.
Good luck, Robert
Today, after just starting to play with MonoDevelop for the first time, I started getting the “System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type ‘System.WeakReference’” error also. Skipping the usual mucky details, I was able to solve it by clearing out my preferences in the XML-based *.userprefs file (sibling to the *.sln file in my Unity project directory). (I am running Windows 7, 64 bit, with Unity 3.1.)
