I'm getting inconsistent root motion. How can I be more precise?

Hey there!

If I have a test animation that translates a character a few units forward in say, 30 frames, root motion seems to work correctly and my character ends up where he should be in the animation file.

However, if I move the character the same amount forward in 10 frames, and then hold for the remaining 20, root motion doesn’t translate my character the same amount, and he ultimately stops short of where he should get to.

What am I missing here?

EDIT: New information… this seems to only happen when an objects movement speed gets too quick. I’m doing an combat animation where the character pops forward quickly. I just discovered that if I space out the frames, Root Motion seems to work OK. Unfortunately spacing out the frames isn’t an option. What’s the deal here? Has anyone gotten Root Motion working in this kind of situation?

A-HAH!

Got it, as usual, the answer came to me after posting. The problem, of course, was animation transitions. I had fast movement in the begining part of my animation, so some of that was being muffled during the blend. I’ll leave this post in case someone else runs into the same issue.

Sorry if I shouldn’t bump this, but I was wondering if you could be more specific in how you fixed the issue above in terms of changing the transition. Even when I have no blend in my transitions I still have inconsistent root motion movement. Thank for any advice.
