Im just curious

Hi guys, i was checking sub forum Made with Unity and saw every single game that was released to google play. Even if the game was good there were not more than 10 downloads. I cannot find any game made with Unity that make money from game. I don’t understand why people use Unity( which should be used for next gen graphical games) for sh*tty games that can be made with online drag and drop “engine” ?

I didn’t found “questions” subforum and if this thread don’t fit here, change its place to where she belong.

Cities: Skyline, Hearthstone, Crossy Road, Kerball Space Station, Pillars of Eternity, Pond Wars. That’s just off the top of my head.

Unity can create great games. And it can create poor ones. What’s the problem with that?

I’m talking only for Android games released in Google play. As a indie we cant talk about Crosst road, cause this game is made from not a single person, and spend more than you can imagine for ads. Even if you make game something like tab the dot, if you put 100k for ads it will become the next flappy bird.
So lets not miss the point. I dont see any single game made from one person (not company) which got more than 100k downloads from past year.
Dont be angry, but i checked your portfolio which fits exactly for what i am writting here.
The strange thing here is that in unity asset store there are tons of quality assets and i just cant imagine someone who use them make game similar to these from 1990 year.
Maybe unity subscription should be 1500$ and no free version, cause now with these tons of 10 download “games” reputation of Unity for people dowload the games becomes close to Zero.

Any one-man-team game most likely will have less than 100k downloads or fail completely, regardless of the engine.

If you want to get somewhere, you’ll need more than one person, or you’ll need to get lucky and hit unique niche.

It is a game engine, not a genie lamp.

If I’m not mistaken Android is generally considered to be a bad platform to release to if you want to make money.

Nope, the right marketing decisions and money spent for ads are everything that makes one game profitable. Cmon most the famous games like crossy road, the earlier versions of minecraft and tons of more dont need more than one programmer. Im curious what unity gets from game which will not reach the cap, and will never buy pro version. I understand if had any mountly sub. This only ruin its reputation.

If those are the only reasons why does it matter what engine is used?

Made in Unity.

What online drag and drop “engine”? If it gets the job done faster then people would use it.

I dont see how Unity’s reputation is connected to downloads. People dont know that the game was made in Unity before they download it.

Im curious too - why does it bother you? Do you think that your games’ success is being held back by other people making bad games in Unity?

The fun thing is that if you check the internet, one of the creator of the crossy road was a struggling one-man-developer… till he found two partners. And only THEN they made crossy roads.

Lets give example. UE4 dont have free assets like these in unity asset store, BUT there is one big BUT! They saw that much people makes useless applications and they cannot reach the cap of 3k per quarter and UE receives nothing. Thats why they decide not to publish their Infinty Blade game and to publish for FREE these top quality assets in store. They can be used commercial no fee only in ue engine which make easy for an indie to make quality scene in no time.
Cryengine got subscription of 9$ per mouth , no royalty. They dont care if u make useless app when you pay your sub.
Every engine is made to help end users to make their dreamed games and to share with millions of people around the worls. We all know serious people dont make applications for fun, but for money.
Unity got everything one developer need to make his app, but you should put some unique story which make your app different from others and prople will like it. But to upload one simple terrain with just one texture and the whole story is tab the thing does not make any sense.
I saw one game made with unity - Rock simulator, is simple game in which you play a rock… but people like it cause is different even was Greenlight in Steam.

Yes, clearly they don’t have any free assets available like those in their example projects… oh wait.

You got me. It was made by two people, not one. Totally not a legit indie game. Heck their company has almost 16 employees now, they are pratically AAA.

What did you think of Pond Wars?

I’m a chemical engineer. I get paid big bucks to run a chemical plant. We produce hundreds of tonnes of agricultural chemicals every day. Frequently that entails 12 hour days, especially when commissioning new plants, which is one of my specialties.

Point is comparing what a hobbyist like me can do in my spare time to what a dedicated professional dev can do is kind of crazy.

If you count tutorials for free assets then carrefully read which can be used for commercial project and which not. And it can be used only in UE again. But that miss the point of whole hread.

What is the point of this thread? How does somebody producing a poor game impact you?

You’re absolutely right. The whole point of this thread was to prove how little you actually know. Sorry about that.

Ok, if you think making useless games that no one will play, but you will is not losing your time and the time of man which regret downloading it then go ahead and publish useless instead think a week like and make something which solve peoples problem. All these games should not be publish to store, but in some html version where kids will be playing it.

What?

Ah. Deciphered it. I don’t share this opinion.

Either way, do you have an actual question?

You may not share his opinion, but can you at least share the deciphered message? :stuck_out_tongue:

As far as I can tell he meant:

Something along those lines. I suspect auto-translator or a fit of righteous rage. Or something.

Also that reminded me of “Has Anyone Really Been Far Even as Decided to Use Even Go Want to do Look More Like?”

Either way sounds like the dude is having a bad day and randomly decided to get angry at unity.

Heheh, i don’t get angry on Unity, i try to put your brain back in it’s socket. From your answers i already saw that Unity will get not ever a penny from your project which will never reach the cap.
I don’t know if you have any projects published, that is why im not writing about your stuff.

Before you try to make more posts, just check the games made with unity (not all, but 90% of them), try them and back in this thread.
Maybe people check only the tutorial which show you how to roll a ball and they do it and publish it.
