I'm surprised no one has brought this up

That HiggyB is no longer with Unity.

http://twitter.com/#!/higgyb

Or that UT opened a new office in Japan:

The UT crew needs to hire an “Announcement” guy or gal to pop this kinda stuff in the announcement sections of the forum once it happens. I hate hearing it first from outside websites and forums, and much rather be reading it here on the forum.

Any idea why he left?

Maybe he joined CryTek or Epic

Maybe we will get a new mod?

cries for unimanity

This is an outrage!

Sent out the original tweet on it a few minutes after he brought it up on FB

Its sad …

and no, no ideas why he left either

Does it really matter at this point? It’s not like he, or nearly anybody from UT, has had a presence in the community for years now. I feel like he left long ago, and have definitely missed him, along with the rest of them. At least it’s kind of a thing to cherish, though, at this point. The few tidbits we get from them now are condensed gold.

Agreed!

Unity who?

Pretty sad, he was a very nice guy. I’ve left him out a tweet few hours ago.
I remember back in 2006, HiggyB explaining me the benefits of getting a Mac and Unity through email. Turns out, he was right completely right.
Back in that time Unity staff were pretty small.
Though, i officially jumped in once Unity got iOS support in 2008.

True. Still waiting for him to respond to an email I sent him over a year ago… Guess I should stop expecting a reply, eh? LOL IMO the UT staff participation years back is what set them appart from their competitors. I was searching some old forum posts the other day and ran into a thread where Aras had responded to one of my questions less than 5 minutes after I had posted it. Now that was phenomenal tech support. Them days are gone for ever…

Hey, I did post 5 forum posts this morning before I came to work even! But yes, this was like after 5 month pause when I completely dropped forums. My bad.

Aras! Wow, can’t believe my eyes! Good to see you here! Hope we see more of you in the future!

Personally, I’m happy for the UT guys like Aras to not be responding on forum posts if it means they’re busy making Unity kick even more butt than it currently does. I don’t really get why everyone gets upset that they’re not in here posting constantly.

Because they are good people. And having people that develop the freaking engine help us out. That support is ultimate.

But we have each other to talk to

The more the merrier (especially when they can tell you the exact problem because of working with the engine).

Yeah I guess that debate really comes back to all the discussion about UT’s level of support for the product. I find most of the big-hitters on the forums fairly knowledgeable though - I’ve rarely had a problem that people here didn’t really quickly either outright solve, or at least point me in the right direction to a solution to.

I suppose that’s not really the point though, is it. The ease of finding “alternate support” shouldn’t be an excuse for not providing adequate offical support, so a more obvious UT presence in the forums would certainly be welcome, given that this is the primary place that everyone turns to when they’re having issues.

So okay. You made me change my mind. Well done

I may not have posted a whole lot, but I’ve been on here since 2005. It’s true that the Unity Development staff used to have a much heavier presence on these forums; however, these forums used to have a lot fewer posts to respond to and a lot fewer community members to respond to them.

The community has grown over the years, both in size and in quality. We have a lot of new members with both new and old problems, and more importantly we have a lot of old members who have had all this time to learn and grow.

In a sense, we’re actually in a better position than we were back then. There are more unity users with years of experience than there are members of the Unity development team - and some of them have been users longer than the developers have developers.

While I do miss the old days, the present and future are pretty darn exciting as well; an honestly, this should motivate all of us to put in our best efforts to helping all the members of this community - even the ones wearing the shiny new sneakers we once wore.
