IMAX room-scale VR centers

Kind of interesting.

I’ve always said VR will find it’s place in the arcade market before the home market. It’s interesting to see other people expiriment.

Interesting they stuck with room scale. Locally the concept has been tried out with free roam VR. If you have a dozen 12*12 rooms, connecting them together into a larger free roam space might make more sense. And it will certainly make the experience something that players can’t just get at home.

It would at least be understandable if they coupled it with omni-treadmills but there isn’t any mention of them. This must just be a stunt to attract attention and determine interest in VR.

Personally I think it’s a very smart move to milk the market dry while VR is a buzz-word.
The fact is that there aren’t enough big, lasting gaming experiences in VR yet, and so IMAX has tuned into this perfectly to capture those that think it would be fun to try it but don’t want to pay thousands to do so. This will make them a lot of money, I can almost guarantee that. Whether it lasts more than a year? Who knows, but I doubt that matters to IMAX.
Good business move.
