I imported terrain from another engine, and entire thing is badly stair stepped,no doubt its diff in terrain handling between the two,but is there any way , knowing value from other engine to fix ?
Btw,why am I not allowed to do something as simple as create a ‘new tag’, here named 'import 'since it clearly applies ?
Honestly, I’m not sure if I understand what do you want here. Terrains are just heightmaps, so if you export/import your heightmap just check your bitmap image if it looks good or it is not. I don’t really get the “knowing value from other engine” part. What value, what engine?
Because first, people are terrible creating tags, it would be total chaos, second, tags originally was for the engine team to look for their own specific tags in the forums, so they can check on posts/threads which is for them. No one would take a look on your own, custom created tag, so it would not make sense to create one.
WEll I just disagree on ‘tags’, as ue4 has a huge amount of them, 10 +more than Unity , diff stroke I guess,
So that answers first question you had about which engine, and looking at heigthmap isn’t exacting enough to tell accurately what terrain will look like once imported. Yes you can gleen to some degree, does it look like exported terrain etc, , but its not exact enough to rely on for something like this especially.
I get get stair stepping everywhere, and not sure how to fix it, I’m sure someone has experienced this,so hoping someone willl chime in that has,and has some idea if nothing else, how to get some better results.
Thx Joe, ya maybe, I’m way not an expert on that but I’ll look into it,ya I figured it would be tough, its coming from UE4 (testing things for many reasons) and UE4 has value they use for terrains, chunks etal, that unity doesn’t and I suspect thats what it is, but how to get around it…my math isnt’ enough.
I can work around it, but better to try and fix it- if no one knows , I’ll just experiment ,but its like finding needle in haystack of sorts ;0-0, given my knowlege of the intracacies of this topic It’s a shame the only format unity allows is raw.
