I have a character and need to animate it.
When I import it without animations, it looks fine. With them, it looks really bad
(because of the skinned mesh renderer). Any suggestions?

That is not a very good image, give us more details.
Check the image in full screen. The models to the left and to the right are exactly the same model with exactly the same texture. The one on the right has animations while the one on the left does not. Note how there is a whitish stripe on the helmet and two light stripes on both hands. When I don’t import any animations it looks like the one on the left. When I import animations it adds a “Skinned mesh renderer” which makes it look like the one on the right.
Give us a frontal view…
looks like your normals are inverted. can you double-check in your 3d app that the normals point outwards?
not sure why it only happens on skinned mesh renderers, but it’s worth a try.
