i made a basic barn in blender, but when i import it, not all the faces are there.
In blender go into edit mode then CTRL A to select all then CTRL N to recalculate normals.
ok thats works. now, when i do some more faces, they come out black instead of they grey color. know how i can fix this?
Do the same: Recalculate normals again!

i tried that but it’s still black. iv’e been trying to fix this for 2 days now and it’s making me mad. but i won’t give up!
wow. just wow. what i did was, i grabbed one of the verts and moved it a tiny bit and now its fine. i’ll never understand this thing. lol
ok mabey that wasn’t it. im still having trouble with other faces. AHHHH
recalculate normals only works if you have clean geometry, in other words no degenerate faces. This is normally determined by how many faces are connected to an edge. it does not like to have more than 3 faces to any edge.
You could have duplicate faces on top of each other, you could have faces sharing some edges and not all vertices are connected etc…
- in edit mode make sure nothing is selected and that you are in vertex viewing mode , then from the select menu choose “Non Manifold” or use the short cut.
also at any time you can hit the N key while your mouse is over the viewport to bring up the properties panel , scroll down to the “Mesh Display” section , click the icon for faces and you can get a visual of your normals.
Ok with that all said and done… You cant expect to get very far if you are relying on forum post responses to tell you how to do the absolute very basics of 3D modelling. You have been helped out now but really you need to go do many tutorials and read the docs to gain all this understanding for yourself.
i haven’t found any tutorials that are in depth as i need them to be. if you have any info on where i can watch said video, if you can, please link me to them.
The world is at your fingertips - use google - check out youtube - sign up to blender specific forums etc… Go forth and conquer.
