Importing .FBX

I made a mesh in Blender. I rigged it and animated it. I exported it as a .fbx. I imported it into Unity, setting the scale factor to 1 and splitting the animations appropriately. Then I dragged my mesh from the Project tab into the Scene View, and I tried scaling it up, but I couldn’t see it, almost as if the mesh was invisible.

I encountered the same thing. Keep scaling the model up until you see it (i.e. 500%).

Some stuff about scale units and Blender there.

Best suggestion I can give, having not used Blender. Would be to make simple cubes at various scales, exporting them out and into Unity until you find one that exports and imports at a 1:1 scale when compared with a cube in Unity (1unit), then you know what scale to work from.

Though ultimately scale isn’t -toooo- important, unless you’re using Physics. Though it’s always a good idea to get as close to regular scale as you can when working at regular sizes, and only cheat the scale of things when working on very small or very big scales.

It’s not scale, it’s that I can’t see the mesh at all.

Also, I tried exporting the model as a .3ds, and the scale was good, but none of the animations worked, and the material indexes rendered very strangelly. I’m using Blender 2.51a, but I heard somewhere that Unity doesn’t work well with that version and I need to use 2.49b?

Yeah I heard the same thing. I think it’s using the actual .blend files from 2.51 that’s the issue or something. You could downgrade, but I dunno if the files would continue to work on an older version of Blender?

I’m using 2.52 and 2.53 successfully but I never tried 2.51 with Unity.

Also try applying size and rotation to your model before exporting.

Select Object>Clear/Apply>Apply Size/Rotation

or use Ctrl + A to bring up the same menu

try setting the scale factor on the FBXImporter from .1 to .2, .4, etc. tab when your mesh is selected

I had the scale factor set to 1 before, I’ll try a few different settings though.
