Importing from 3D Max

Hi,

I’m a complete newbie to Unity so this is probably going to seem like a dumb question!

I’m trying to import a model from 3D Max but when I drag the asset into the scene and try to assign materials to individual objects, all the object adopt the same material.

I know I’m doing something wrong so any help would be appreciated.

Hi Paul, In 3ds Max you need to assign material ID’s to your objects, you can do this by either selecting parts of your mesh and dragging individual materials onto the sub selection. Or you can set the material ID of selections in the editable poly/editable mesh modifiers

Hmmm tried that but it doesn’t work. I still must be doing something wrong. I’m importing the MAX file - should I be exporting out of MAX as FBX?
