Hi I use sketchup quite alot and import models mostly successfully using .fbx files
Occasionally I’ll spend ages on a model and find that although it is visible on the preview pane it is lost or at least not visible when dragged into the landscape in the main window…
Any ideas or suggestions? Its not anything to do with the scale or placement as far as I can tell…
Hello,
Could be a problem of normals…
maybe the mesh’s normals are inverted?
Is there a way of testing this - or changing them within sketchup or is it a case of importing into 3ds or something??
Thanks
Could also be a problem with scale on the import settings.
I just did a quick test (see attachment) in Sketchup Pro exported as a .OBJ file. It seems to work fine here. Did you export as 2 sided or 1 sided surfaces (in the export options)? I did it with 2 sided -off-.

Having got better at this now - I think the most
common problem is simply a scaling issue.
ie the model is there but its often too small to be seen
