Impression of "The Last of Us"...

So far, I have only played a little over an hour and I’m sold. I just love the immersive environment and eerie tale the game seems to be telling…not to mention the animation is just down right amazing.

What are your thoughts? I’m sure more then a few of you have already cleared the entire story.

Looks completely amazing and all… But oversold in all honesty.

From How I Met Your Mother words of wisdom :

I’m loving it! I’m not a fan of the whole zombie genre but I am a huge Uncharted fan. It’s a little slow at the start while setting up the story, but now 5 hours into it…wow! Very well crafted and huge fun - I think they’ve actually managed to improve on the high standards set in the Uncharted series.

It’s reminiscent of Arkham City, Assassins Creed 2, Tomb Raider (the recent one), and of course Uncharted 1/2/3. If you see the common thread in those games and it’s appealing, you’ll enjoy this.

No doubt the guy selling the Apocalyptic City in the Asset Store is going to do well out of this too.

The environment is great, it feels so real.

My game of the year tbh, can’t wait to pick up my copy. I won’t be reading any more so I don’t get spoilers.

Yeah looks good I was watching pewdie play it.

it damn good been waiting for this for ages and i belive im right at the end but wont say anything but the game is damn AMAZING looks great the animations, models, textures and the voice acting is top Naughty dog make bloody amazing games!

I really really really really really really really really really really really really really… really… want to play it.

About 12 hours in. Love it. It plays a lot like the new Tomb Raider in my opinion, and that’s a good thing because the new Tomb Raider was amazing.

I hope it’s not as buggy as Tomb Raider was on Nvidia; ffs TR used to crash every half hour.

Played Tomb Raider on the PS3 - was perfect. Haven’t encountered any issues in The Last Of Us.

Yep, same - I didn’t experience any issues at all on TR, it was beautifully executed. We’re talking about the new one though, that came out this year.

An hour further into TLOU…man, what a fantastic game. Wish I could say more about it but don’t want to spoil anything…

Just completed the game and I’m sure I’m not going to blow anyone’s mind with this opinion, but what an amazing game. It’s refreshing to see an action game that isn’t all about giving the player a power trip and actually successfully delivers a game with emotional depth in the story and the game play. Was expecting uncharted with zombies but the game feels completely different from uncharted, almost can’t believe it’s by the same company besides some small technical giveaways. And I think the combat is way better then Tomb Raider, screw regenerating health! Every enemy encounter in TLOU holds a lot of weight, because you could very easily die but also even if you survive the encounter, if you do poorly then you are worried about how you are going to fare in the next encounter. I think the game pulls off something special if fighting 3 guys actually feels like a challenge, and 20 guys basically forces you to run.

Also, can I just bring up how impressed I was with the game’s visuals? Every location felt absolutely littered with detail, and exploring the abandoned buildings was a real treat. Just as one example, pay attention to any bedroom you enter in the game, and notice how there is not a single detail missing that a real abandoned bedroom would have, including multiple posters and clothes thrown about on the floor. I also really liked how almost anything with text on it was clearly readable, including really small stuff like books on a bookshelf, which is a pet peeve of mine in other games.

Small note: maybe someone should make a spoiler thread, because it seems like every other post is trying to dodge spoilers, lol.

Best summary I have read. I’m about 20% through the game now and absolutely loving it.

The only thing i can’t stand is the character “skating” when he move, it was like this also with uncharted the character movement is out of sync of the ground
i don’t know how to describe it.
but its a good game.

Better as a PC game, or PS3?

Thinking I should go buy me a copy. Played both uncharted’s, so if its similar to that, guess it will be the best platform, although I do prefer point and click shooting.

It’s only available on PS3.

Well that makes it an easy decision. haha

Thought id seen it on steam. must have been imagining it.

Agreed, graphically this was a outstanding game, although the game play was nearly as good. I’m about 6 hours in and would recommend this game to anyone. I loved the way the clickers worked, sneaking up on a blind character with a flashlight in it’s face was not the norm, but a lot of fun when you couldn’t see behind you in the darkness, not knowing if something was sneaking up on you.

I’m 14 hours in (70% completion) and I’m digging it. It’s not massively original or anything, but every aspect of the game is highly polished and there are high production values throughout. The voice acting and writing is outstanding. The story elements are “mature”, but not anything you haven’t seen in your average episode of The Walking Dead. Some areas are surprisingly challenging, especially if you happen to be low on supplies. The game reminds me of the 360 game Condemned at times. That’s a good thing.

The AI is pretty interesting. The human characters will often successfully flank you and use various techniques to flush you out of your hiding place.

I did run into two gameplay glitches where things didn’t trigger that were supposed to. It wasn’t clear at first in either case that the game was glitching, so that’s the only part that sucked. When I figured that out though, it was just a matter of selecting Restart Encounter, and I didn’t really lose any progress, since the checkpoints are frequent.
