I just got an email from Apple. Looks like they’re allowing In App Purchases from Free Apps! I’m thinking this is great news!
Definitely great news. My initial thought is, “Hey, true try-before-you-buy!” My only concern is that users may not be willing to adopt this method. However, it makes it so simple for them to buy it right from the app…
I agree that it does change things…and some customers dont like change. I think if lots of developers start making free apps with DLC instead of Lite Versions, the users will warm up to it.
am I reading it right that basically micropayments and subscriptions is available?
Thats right!
Is anyone familiar with how you set the pricing for the in app. content? Does the Apple API call that the application calls retrieve price information from the app store for the popup dialog that appears in app.? So if one wanted to change the price of content it would be a simple change on the app store with no change to the actual app.?
This starts to suck
Why the hell do I never get apple’s update mails on the service.
I think I need to contact their support again again.
I have a few products that will heavily benefit from this method of delivery, however until now I wasn’t really that interested because the 3.0 adoption was very low.
So, how well does Unity handle this in-app purchasing of goodies? ![]()
It does not handle them at all.
Its up to you to implement the required XCode end of stuff, seperate content in the app accordingly / use assetbundles and handle all the payment and ownership history so they can get their bought stuff at any time again on any of the devices related to the app store account again.
There are a couple companies that offer StoreKit libraries and hosting for $0.05 per in-app purchase. The one I’m most familiar with is Urban Airship in Portland.
It should be possible to add their library to Unity, just like Agon Online, ScoreLoop, and OpenFeint support.
hehe 2 threads on the topic will end quite confusing. The other thread on this can be found at: http://forum.unity3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=34168&highlight=
