incorrect FBX export/import

Hello,

I have created an animation in maya with a custom character rig I got online. I am trying to export the fbx file, but it does not seem to be working right. I have deleted construction history, selected only the mesh and have exported it and still nothing.

Just wanna go through first with what the help page says.

Did you make sure the FBX is the most recent?
Are you making sure everything is the right frame rate and matches the animation? Did you make sure “animation” is checked? Did you bake the animation out?

Just making sure, these are simple things but you could have overlooked them.

Yes, the frame rate is correct and matches the animation. I will make sure it is the most recent FBX. I am using Maya 2016, so I am assuming so, but I will make sure. All the animation aspects were taken care of.

Could it possibly be the rig I am using?
