Inferno Tech Demo

Finally got a little something to show for the last few years part time work on my game.

Brief Description: SciFi/Vehicle/Ground Combat

This will be a command and conquer style game, taking away the base and resource management and putting you in charge of building a small squad of vehicles. All of which will be controllable by you, either as their driver or simply telling them what you want them to do (attack enemy base, guard home base, follow you around, assist harvester, etc)

Depending on what I can squeeze out of Unity, this will probably end up being 4-5 players on each team, with a squad of 4-5 vehicles each. Winning will require destroying the enemy base.

Finish line is a long way off, but then again im am one person working on a large project part time (part time has meant at times several months when I havnt even opened Unity!)

Any feedback would be awesome since this has been going so long its hard to stay focused.

If I get enough interest Ill release a Windows/OSX(maybe) build for play testing. Probably not a webplayer though.

Hah, i like it,its neat! I think a lot of visual polish will come later but youre pulling things together that are interesting you and doing it well and it seems you have a funky lil basis by which to start a fun multi-vehicular blowing things up game. Its interesting cause im just about to endeavour on a similar perspective sorta game (totally different setting no worries) and enjoyed how you had things controlling

Im also a lone dev and i know the feeling when things go on and on and on and you know it wont stop for quite some time to come, and i know how important good feedback is to maintaining motivation, cause it can be very tiring and run you down and people saying senseless things can be the straw that broke the camels back

Yeah, not my kind of game but i like what youve pulled together (loved the lil warcraftesque guy moving around at the top) and it seems like you have a basis for something cool here, good luck with it

Yeah its hard to stay focused, especially when coding is your day job as well.

Camera controller (for interest stake), has a default Chase mode, but if you right click you can get to any angle (except when controlling the soldier dude). This lets you look around behind you to see where you are being attacked from. Still so so much to do tho. haha… hopefully I get it finished in this lifetime

Doesnt help I keep distracting myself with un-important things like new logos etc. ahah. Got to keep yourself busy with variety though, otherwise it starts to become a drag.

Luckily i’ve little else to do than make games other than do whatever stops the lady from moaning so i do get to put in a lot of time, variety is good (I cross projects a lot) but it does become extremely distracting at times, something im facing lately

How did you go about doing the control and flight of the rotor based craft? Not just the helis but the plane with rotor wings thingy too, i wont lie i’m trying to think of the best way of doing it myself for something in the near future, if you have any pointers id love to hear them, but if you dont fancy it no mind!

Top secret :stuck_out_tongue:

Its all physics based for the aircraft adding the required forces for lift and movement. Once I get them to a point where I consider them final, I might consider selling them as assets.

I cant give you any pointers from here (at work - lol - working hard I might add), but I can probably give you some tips over PM if needed. Ive done things like:

  • Auto Hover (with deviation to give realistic look)
  • Auto Stabilise (to upright position - again with some deviation to make it bounce around a little)
  • local angular velocity Force cancellation/restriction (maximum attitude’s)
  • AI Flight input is handled in the same way a player would fly it

That kind of help would be deeply appreciated, thankyou! Just when you have the free time though. I had this spiffing idea about a surprisingly animated central character/vehicle and im soaking up certain subjects like a sponge, the idea of hover flight especially, and the idea of deviation’s exciting from the side of animating it alone. Cheers for the offer!

And as an aside i’m sure such a thing would be lapped up in the asset store, definitely a plus point of things like this is indeed slowly amassing a base of stuff you might not really mind doing some work for you in the asset store

It all starts with one crazy idea! :stuck_out_tongue:

Getting a few views/comments on the video. Great for that enthusiasm boost!

If you want to follow me on twitter (which I dont really tweet to much at this stage - I talk to myself enough as it is), that would be awesome. If I can get over 20 followers ill release a pc build
