Info About making 2D Art In Unity

So guys i dont know how to draw and i need info about that. I need make a game but i cannot create sound or Art… I hear about gimp and inksape which are programs able to create art …So by learning these and watching tutorials is it possible to create art needed for 2d games in mobile or pc ? Could a experienced game developer explain me what i need to create art and what would be my best option? speaking about programs free or by payment. Also pixel art or with vectors?.

I really would appreciate any help about creating music for my games but i probly need someone for that and i am trying to create everything on my own(I also have a brother with coding experience like who can help me but only with code)

Absolutely, but don’t expect great stuff right off the bat. Those apps are used by many people, and definitely fine for games and unity. Those apps are great and free. If you sign up for Adobe Creative Cloud, you can get Photoshop for 10$ a month, or full suite of all their apps for 35 the first year if you stay doing this more often. Also hear decent stuff about Krita, if your looking to just doodle/concept art, but a graphics tablet is almost a must for drawing.

Everything you mentioned is capable of designing for games. Pixel Art or not. Just keep doing tutorials and practicing.

I’m huge on iterative design when unsure of direction. Don’t expect the best, just draw the same thing in many ways until you figure out the design that fits for your idea. So if you draw a face, try the same thing with many different eyes, or noses.

Here are some of my favorite at pages I’ve discovered so far:

Sycra - http://www.sycra.net/
You can access his YouTube channel from there. Great at covering practice and iterative design.

Ctrl+paint - https://www.ctrlpaint.com/
My favorite page when I was trying to up myself to the next level. Tons of good tutorials, starting from basic to advanced. It’s all covered here.

yea i just want to spend time on the right programs and i think until summer i can draw decently to create art for a game and hoping that in the future i ll be a succesfull game developer :p,
I got no idea about music but i want to start with a program

You can try out Reaper, very cheap if you decide to keep doing it after the trial period. One time fee. Great company. You can use the piano roll and get some free instruments for it. Therefore no live instruments needed. Also hear Audacity thrown around, but not a personal fan. Though it’s completely free forever.

Yes.

You need software you like and you need to get proficient with it.
For higher resolution art you’ll need something like Photoshop or Clip Studio, for sprites and lower resolution art you’ll need something like Aseprite. Free alternatives would be gimp, krita, inkscape, paint.net, etc.

Lmms with free orchestral plugins can work, if you are familiar with music writing. Having a synthesizer can help. For purely electronic music you’ll need a tracker program. For example SunVox, or something similar.

Audacity is more suitable for editing wave files (i.e. something you already recorded as a sound), or maybe producing sound effects.

Then there’s this free tool for generating old school sound effects.

thank you so much guys… btw im in love with pixel art http://cgcookie.deviantart.com/art/Pixel-Art-Tutorial-Chart-341515231 i only got pc and tablet maybe i can use something like a pen on tablet to draw better cause its hard with my mouse i dont know anything about that… but thank you so much , you are very helpfull

Just by using some graphics software isn’t going to automatically give you the ‘ability’ to make game art. You will need to do multiple combinations of things, use of tools in combination etc, in order to come up with good quality results, and also will need to experiment and practice because ultimately you’re going to need some kind of artistic ability if you want it to end up looking good. But go ahead and experiment.

It’ll help a lot, though. I remember wasting a lot of time trying many different 2d programs in order to find the one I’m comfortable with. Then I got the one that clicked for me and worked well.

At the very least it is a great boost for learning process.

but is a mouse enough or i need a pencil to use on tablet? i dont know about the technologies

Mouse should be alright for pixel art.

If you want to make digital paintings and higher resolution drawings, you’ll need a graphics tablet. Wacom Tablet.

I am not an artist but I used inkscape for my game. I’m pretty happy with the results. It’s a cartoony style.
Here’s what game looks like

I learned how to use inkscape from these tutorials. They helped me a lot. You might find them useful.

I bought a wacom tablet previously, before using inkscape. I found that using these tablets require a lot of skill for the results to look any way decent. I found that they have a steeper learning curve than using a program to draw out the art too (since I am not an artist).

I’m like you exactly, but for making arts,I will use Krita which is free.
