Insane Drifting Car (Video and Webplayer)

This one is a car behavior I was looking for, a controlled drifting remembering maybe those of Ridge Racer, but wheel collider based.

The control is not finished because I want to control from total arcade to total simulation, but is in the way.

For those interested, it’s based entirely in wheel colliders without added forces although there is a little trick inside.

WARNING: As a wip, it’s not optimized for slow machines, also keyboard control is not very good, if you want to get the most of it use a gamepad.

Gamepad mapping: I set steer for the x axis and thrust to 4th axis because I’m using an old playstation gamepad with an adapter and I don’t know if it is the standard.

Controls:

C: camera
i: AI active/inactive
On screen controls for AI and interactive camera (press “C” twice)

Sorry for the choppy audio, i’m experiencing some problems with this in windows (I capture the videos on a windows machine).

Edit: The audio problem was due to a duplicated line of code, solved.

And the webplayer:

Edit: I found this video in Youtube, if I have the time I’ll try to do this scenery and look if my physics can do that.

Enjoy

Motion blur is not really motion blur lol.
And sometimes car just slowly slides sideways

Oh man is a great work.

WoW Im excite. I only hope that you finish the Game.

Oh man…that is brilliant!!!

I love the drift, the speed, the car … wow!! This is certainly the best vehicle I’ve seen within Unity!!!

Soooo impressed.

just 1 word…

BRILLIANT

Amazing. Nice car model, by the way.

I agree.

Awesome, your control management is awesome …

Very nice work, especially since you don’t have analog control. How long did it take you to code? Any previous experience coding race games?

BTW, the Veyron’s AWD and wouldn’t be a “drift car”, although it’s a beast to keep
on the road. The behaviour’s more Viper-like

Keep us posted!

Thank you all for the comments.

twitchfactor, actually you have analog control too, plug your gamepad and try it, although the button and sticks mapping maybe is not in a standard way. I know the Veyron is not the most appropriate for a drifting demo, but is a nice car.

Anyway at last I have an argument, a nice story and a gameplay to put the car physics at work.

I cannot say much at this time but the game has a name “El Toro”, it has much to do with big corporations (mainly communication companies, oil companies and banks), frontiers, energy and the internet.

Here you can see some early screen shots with one of the enemies you must destroy in the lower right corner.

nice work as always… also if people don’t know, hit the “c” button and you get a in car view. ikiman, you just need to add a manual transmission, if you haven’t already… :stuck_out_tongue:

Fantastic!

Looks even better than what you’ve shown couple of months ago!

That’s a fantastic demo!

I managed to roll the car…

Wow, I agree this is a very nice car to drive at fast speed, but starting it up is a pain. Is there a way to dampen the drift effect at slow speeds? or maybe make the car accellerate less (from lets say 0-60 Km/hrs)? Maybe you could set the drifting to start at a certain speed? It simply is uncontrollable at low speeds, but I guess you know that.

Anyways, I’ve been coming back to play this car for a while now, so that’s a great sign  Also, there’s lot’s of fun behind the fences guys. Keep it up, awesome car!

That is very nice

How to contact you sir?

So, this thread got necroed, I see.

Once again people can’t be bothered to check the timestamps. Closed (Necro posting).
